The tools we use do matter

As Software Engineers we’ve all heard that we should pick the right tool for the job. But this is even more true for the actual tools that we use in our day to day job: the physical tools, the ones that we use when we practice Software Engineering.

My new mechanical keyboard

And let me assure you nothing boosts performance and productivity than having a nice monitor, an awesome mechanical keyboard that you enjoy, and a mouse that fits perfectly in your hand. And of course working on a MacBook Pro, being a true hipster you know? And maybe even programming in Go :D (Sorry, not sorry! I just could not resist to not brag about how much I enjoy writing code in Go)

My new keyboard along side my old one

I used to write code on my 60% Anne Pro 2 keyboard but I decided to switch it with a Logitech Mx Mini primarily because of two reasons:

  1. The normal two keys combos either become three keys and the three keys become four keys or one has to tap…
  2. I figured out that it will be better for me if I switch to a low profile keyboard :)

As one can see the Mx one has dedicated arrow keys in the bottom right corner and is definitely with much lower profile compared to the Anne :)

I’ve been using the Logitech Mx Mini keyboard for two weeks now and all I can say is that I really enjoy writing code with it :) And as a bonus my colleagues also enjoy it more when I write code with it instead of my Anne Pro 2 since my Anne is with Linear switches while my Mx one is with
Tactiles.
